FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
These are a few common questions asked by our new clients in regards to a deregulated energy market, for further information please contact one of our consults.
Do I have to switch from the incumbent?
No you do not, they will still provide your electricity if you choose. Switching to another retail electricity provider is an option that is afforded to you by laws of deregulation. Everything will be the same, but deregulation offers a competitive market; so sometimes your incumbent will not always be the cheapest option.
What happens if I switch off my incumbent?
Everything will be the same as the previous service that you had with your incumbent utility. The poles and the wires are still managed by your transmission and distribution utility, and if you were to have a power outage they would be the ones to fix it for you. The only thing that would change for you is that your electricity would be generated by another company and have their name on the bill.
How can I be sure that a new company will not affect my service?
Every retail electricity provider (REP) is regulated by the public utility commission and has to follow the same strict rules that your incumbent had to.
What is the benefit of deregulation?
Deregulation has allowed for market entry, giving people the chance to lower their rates and have access to new and innovative products. These products can be more tailored to the usage of your company, helping to cut down on energy consumption and save you money.
Should I be on index or fixed pricing?
This is not something that can be answered by our FAQ, you would not to contact your consultant. There are factors to determine whether this would be something that is beneficial to your company or not, and would require us to find out a bit of information about your company.
